“Everyone Wants To Know Why We’re Teaching Children About Stroke. We Always Tell Them That Children Can Save Lives, And As A Result Of Our Program, They Have!”
Hip Hop Stroke
Hip Hop Stroke is a school-based health education program that empowers 4th-6th grade children with knowledge related to stroke, exciting them through catchy hip hop music, cartoons, and an interactive program. Our extensive research on Hip Hop Stroke proves that the program works-children leave us with an understanding of what stroke is, how it occurs in the body, how to recognize the signs of symptoms of stroke, and what to do in a stroke event. In fact, we’ve found that this knowledge persists up to 15 months later.
Hip Hop Stroke is currently funded by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke at the National Institutes of Health. We are conducting a randomized controlled trial looking at the children’s ability to teach their families at home what they’ve learned about stroke signs and symptoms. See the results of our pilot study here.

*We have anecdotal evidence that children who participated in Hip Hop Stroke have activated ’911′ after witnessing a stroke event.
