Dana Austin is a Director/Producer who has a 15+ year history working in the music and entertainment industries. She studied Film/Video and Graphic Design in school and was an Executive Producer/Producer for Sony Music Studios/Automatic Productions, a division of Sony Music Entertainment Inc. While at SMEI, she collaborated with artists on all Pre thru Post Production ranging from Artist Interviews, On-Location & Studio Shoots, Live Multi-Cam Concerts, Broadcast TV Shows, DVDs, Music Videos, EPKs, Press Tours and Corporate Presentations. She was an integral part of the team that broke artists during the Latin Explosion in the late 1990’s such Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin and Shakira.
Some of her SMEI production credits include Franz Ferdinand MTV Live at 9:30 Club, Sessions at West 54th, Audioslave EPK and Cyndi Lauper Live…At Last DVD. Dana rose to run two of the strongest video departments at SMEI: Special Projects and DVD Production where she executive produced all core Sony DVDs such as Beyonce Live At Wembley, AC/DC Live At Donington and Good Charlotte Live From Brixton. While at SMEI, she helped make Epic and Columbia Records #1 and #2 in the DVD Market Share for 2003.
Throughout her career she has interviewed AC/DC, Isaac Hayes, Elmo, Jennifer Lopez and Chuck D from Public Enemy and has worked on projects with Celine Dion, Johnny Cash, Lil Kim and Dave Matthews. In 2005, she produced the Funkmaster Flex Documentary for Spike TV. She has worked on projects with the American Cancer Society, National Stroke Association and Stroke of Hope Foundation. In 2009 she founded Breathe Entertainment, a full-service production company based in New York City. She recently completed various Marketing Reels, PSAs and Documentaries for Hip Hop Stroke and Hip Hop H.E.A.L.S. (Healthy Eating And Living in Schools) and beat out nationwide entries and was selected for the Hip Hop Public Health Sizzle Reel to be shown at the American Public Health Association (APHA) National Conference in Washington, DC in 2012. She is in-production on her directorial debut for On Fire, a documentary film on landscape photographer Larry Schwarm who shoots the prairie fires in the Flint Hills of Kansas. Dana is currently a staff producer at HBO and was recently named to the Board of Directors for Hip Hop Public Health.
