Three HHPH team members met with 40 middle school student participants of New York Academy of Medicine’s G.I.R.L.S. (Getting into Real Life Science) and Health Professions program on December 18, 2012. The primary goal of the G.I.R.L.S. program is to teach underrepresented minority women about careers in public health, science, and medicine. Alexandra DeSorbo, Mindy Feldman Hecht and Saima Huq taught the students about the fields of public health and health education, and shared their experiences in the public health profession. The students also participated in the Hip Hop Stroke program.
